Warning! This ain’t your granny’s unemployment office! The old unemployment regulatory system has long since gone to a call center separate of the workforce system. The American Job Center, on the other hand, is all about value-added services to job seekers to help them quickly know their skills, improve their skills, and get a better job than what they had before.
Customers begin with a basic skills assessment, followed by consultation with a workforce specialist on specific job opportunities and ways the Job Center can help. Services might include job counseling, workshops, tuition assistance, and much more. The WIB oversees Career Centers in Joplin, Monett, and Neosho. Online, job seekers can get resources locally at the job center websites as well as Missouri’s statewide job bank at jobs.mo.gov. Career services targeted to youth in need may be found at FutureLink also administered by the WIB.
